VOC Thermal Destruction

Thermal oxidation is an excellent method of destroying Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), offering reliable operation and extremely high efficiency treatment. Where the VOCs are halogenated, sulphonated, or contaminated with heavy metals or inorganic particulate, ERG can offer a flue gas treatment package as well as the thermal oxidiser – a complete gas treatment system.

ERG has experience of thermal treatment of waste solvents and fumes from solvent and oil storage, and can offer you a system which is fully IED compliant. The process can be combined with energy recovery techniques to minimise operating costs.

Treatment of process gas from continuous and batch furnaces producing carbon blanket used in the manufacture of thermal and electrical insulators. ERG’s thermal oxidiser included a complex inlet gas manifold to allow the oxidiser to operate with gas streams from the furnaces in numerous different operating modes. The oxidiser treated these nitrogen-rich process gas streams heavily contaminated with benzene, naphthalene, and acetylene, and achieved VOC emissions of <20 mg/Nm³ TOC (dry, STP, 3% O₂).
FEED (Front End Engineering Design) project to upgrade an existing Beverley Environmental oxidiser originally supplied in the 1980s. With a change to the control system, burner, and process gas fans to match the new system requirements, the original oxidiser operating life is extended, maximising the client’s asset value.
